Corporate profile - Rachel Gray - Waikato Territory Manager
I graduated from Otago University in May 2008 with a Diploma in Dietetics and a BCom in Economics. From there I shifted to the deep south to take up a role with the SDHB as Community Dietitian leaving my boyfriend behind in Christchurch.
After 18 months of beautiful scenery, freezing cold temperatures, gale force winds and many many flights to Christchurch, I decided to apply for this role with Nutricia in the Waikato, where I was born and bred.
In my spare time I enjoy playing and coaching squash, snowboarding, tennis, wines by the pool and getting out and about socialising with family & friends. I look forward to working with Nutricia and all the challenges/opportunities it offers. |

Nutrini & Nutrini Energy 200ml bottle discontinuation
Nutrini and Nutrini Energy 200ml glass bottles will be discontinued in early 2010.
We expect product to run out in January/February 2010.
We are discontinuing these product formats due to:
- The low and reducing volume usage that has lead to an uneconomical situation
- A global move away from glass packaging (due to 'no glass policies' upheld in hospitals)
A 500ml pack of both products is already available and funded in New Zealand, which offer greater safety in terms of contamination prevention and ease of use. We kindly ask that patients are transferred across to the pack format of these products:

SHS Rebranding update
SHS products are being rebranded globally to make the range simpler, safer and more user friendly. In line with this, a number of the products now have multilingual labelling with no change to the formulation of the product itself.
A number of products will have both a name change and a 'new look' label. The first of these products is Lophlex LQ which is now called PKU Lophlex LQ. Next year will see a few more of these changes; the first will be XP Analog LCP which will be known as PKU Anamix Infant (details to follow next year). |
Rest Home & Private Hospital Pump Audit
During November we conducted a nationwide Rest Home & Private Hospital pump audit to assist with forecasting pumps requirements for 2010. Thank you to all the facilities that were involved with the audit and special congratulations goes to the winners of the summer picnic hampers:
- Rowena Lozano, Elizabeth Knox Hospital in Auckland
- Jyoti Chandra, Palmerston Manor Rest Home in Palmerston North
- Cathy Roseveare, Cashmere View Hospital in Christchurch

Low Protein picnics
The final two Low Protein Picnics for this year were held in Christchurch and Auckland in November. In Christchurch we had a fantastic day at the Antarctic Centre with a great turnout of metabolic patients and their families (one family came from as far away as Invercargill!)
The Auckland picnic was held at the Auckland Zoo and was again a great success. These picnics are such a wonderful way for these families to get together to share ideas, food, experiences and recipes and to meet the Health Professionals that support them in a wonderfully relaxed and fun situation.
As these events are so well supported and enjoyed by all, we hope to continue them again next year. |

Dietitians Metabolic Study Day
This day has become a much anticipated annual study day for the Dietitians in the various DHBs who either have metabolic patients in their care or would be responsible for any newly diagnosed babies. The 7th Study Day was again wonderfully informative with plenty of hands on experiences
e.g. low protein baking and workshops, great presentations by the metabolic team and very well presented case studies where regional Dietitians share their experiences. Our thanks go to Rhonda Akroyd for her fantastic organization of this day and all the speakers who contributed to this successful event.

Paediatric Society of NZ Annual Meeting
The 61st Annual Meeting of the Paediatric Society of NZ was held during the 24 - 27th November in Hamilton. The conference theme was 'Starving in the Age of Recession: The ecology of child health' with contributions from excellent keynote speakers. With over 250 delegates it was a great opportunity for paediatric health professionals to come together. |

AuSPEN Conference
Our barista was on hand once more at the 2009 AuSPEN Conference, held in Christchurch from the 29th to 31st October 2009.
Susan Choie and Jayne Strachan attended the conference, along with some of our Australian colleagues. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet key experts in enteral nutrition and hear the latest innovations and best practices in this area.
There was much interest in our Flocare Infinity pump, feeding sets with recessed spike and Nutrison pack, which together lead the way in enteral feeding safety and innovation. We also conducted a quiz with a Nintendo DS prize, which was won by Pam Driscoll from Waikato Hospital. Congratulations!
We look forward to the 2010 AuSPEN conference which will be held on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. |
